We’re thankful to be able to offer, once again, the beautiful and delicate Limu Gera! It comes from the district of Gera, in Jimma, Ethiopia, which is known for its cool, temperate climate with abundant rainfall. This climate, which offers close to eight months of reliable rainfall every year, creates near-optimal conditions for growing exceptional coffee.
This coffee is grown under natural forest resulting in slower development and subsequent increases in depth of flavor, as well as ecological benefits. During the harvest in Gera, smallholder coffee farmers deliver their ripe, handpicked cherry to the local wet mill. The coffee is then hand-sorted by the farmers before being sent to the de-pulpers. Once pulped, the coffee is fermented in large tanks for 36-48 hours. This is considered a long fermentation time by many standards, but is necessary since the cool temperatures (typically ranging from 60 to 70 degrees and slightly cooler at night time) slow down the fermentation process. The result is a very sweet and delicate cup of coffee.
