Dung K’No is a small region of southern Vietnam in the hills surrounding a beautiful city named DaLat. Life is interesting for the people of Dung K’No, there is beauty in every direction and a strong sense of community; and also a lot of hope for change in the near future. Our green coffee buyer traveled to Vietnam in December to meet the farmers and oversee harvest of this coffee. Through this visit Victrola has begun to sponsor a program to educate the local farmers of Dung K’No how to pick and process their coffees at a high specialty level. Victrola and the buying team are achieving this by working with the mill and the receiving station to change their cherry selection process and work with the farmers to change how they pick their coffee.
Vietnam coffee farmers have quietly become the second largest by volume coffee producing country after Brazil; but due to political reasons the average coffee farmer does not know anything about the coffee supply chain or how their coffee cherries get used globally. Through this program the farmers we work with have a direct line of contact across the supply chain and have access to education materials that aid their farms.
This is a program we are very proud of and are looking forward to continuing year after year moving forward. We use this coffee in our Triborough blend, as single origin espresso, and we purchased a honey process coffee, and an anaerobic natural process coffee that are guaranteed to WOW.
