Guatemala is a special origin for a lot of the specialty coffee industry; as the people are wonderful, the country is beautiful, and it is easy to navigate for the most part from Mexico in the north to El Salvador in the south. For many it is the first coffee origin they visit and holds the founding memories of what specialty coffee can be. For us, Guatemala takes on so much more. Not only is it all of those things but it is also a place for us to put the work in and develop new specialty coffee regions. This

is one of those projects!
This is our third year purchasing from the Quiche department of Guatemala, an under-represented coffee origin because of its remoteness. Regardless if you are talking local Quiche (Santa Cruz) or deep Quiche (Playa Grande Ixcan) you will be in the car for 8-16 hours from Antigua! The effort the Joyabol community puts in to grow and produce such amazing coffee is a testament to the passion of the Guatemalan specialty coffee community. In the last three seasons we have seen the quality grow each year, and we are expecting a number of the producers we work with to begin producing and selling single producer coffees in the mid - high 80pt range in the next few years.
