The town of Gera is in the Limu woreda (zone) of the Oromia region and is located about 30 miles Southwest of the famous city Agaro. This coffee is grown by a multitude of smallholder farmers in the town’s surrounding highlands. The combination of high altitude, warm daytime temperatures and cool nights create a near perfect coffee growing climate. This area also known for its exceptional white Honey.
This coffee is fully washed, fermented in holding tanks for 36-48 hours, and then placed on raised drying beds where they are turned every few hours to ensure even drying.
Our Limu Gera is a subtle and delicate example of an Ethiopian Limu. Soft notes of honeydew melon, cardamom and cidering spices surface in the aroma. When brewed, a tantalizing note reminiscent of milk chocolate pudding begins to present itself. The sweet honeydew melon note that was first encountered aromatically carries the high notes of the brew, and a creamy, almost buttery mouthfeel akin to Crème fraîche or clotted cream glides the coffee across the palate. The flavor then begins to fade slowly in a richly balanced finish.
