AJ Power, May artist @ Victrola on 15th - art at Victrola Coffee & Art 411 15th Avenue East, Seattle, WA 98112 |
|
From the artist himself: "I worked as a Federal Observer on fishing vessels out of Dutch Harbor Alaska in 1999 - responsible for monitoring compliance, estimating catch quantity, recording bycatch, recording endangered species. Observers are otherwise known as “fish cops”, although there is actually little power that comes with the title. The sinking of the Alaska Ranger, the death of the captain and the fishmaster, the account of the Observer onboard, helped form the impetus for this new body of work. Elemental Forces. Consumption. Death at Sea. Indifference and Ecstasy." |

MagraneHill - Victrola on 15th - Mon, May 5 8-10pm - music at Victrola Coffee & Art 411 15th Avenue East, Seattle, WA 98112 |
|
Magrane’s music draws
from and touches upon the seasonal nature of archetypal human
experience: love and loss, faith and fear: the unknown. His songs
collect from the deep and varied musical traditions of the past: the
folk ballads sung out on the porches of summer, blues laments from
deep in the fields of the heart and spirit, the raw electricity of
rock n’ roll. Hill crafts
his own songs that pay homage to his roots in folk and bluegrass
music while nodding to the sonic creativity and lyrical playfulness
of post-post-modernism. If you're lucky, you just might catch
Adam picking tunes out on the guitar and singing like he was sitting
on a cockroach infested porch, thunder rumbling, and the warm rain
coming down in sheets. Learn more: www.myspace.com/travismagrane
