Urban Soule - October Artist at Victrola Pike St. - art at Victrola Cafe & Roastery 310 E Pike Street, Seattle, WA |
|
Growing up in the farmland and later living in the city I developed a taste for urban street art such as wheat pasted posters and flier's, stickers, stencils, murals and spray painted graffiti. The "underground" and "outsider" art became part of my life. Having my first solo art show at the age of sixteen gave a new meaning to being an artist, I realized the potential in becoming a professional artist. Using mainly spray paint, stencils and ink as mediums I create images on almost any printable surface.I like to incorporate the old traditions of paper cutting with a newer urban approach to painting. I'm constantly trying new techniques and mediums to fine tune my work.
Come meet the artist: 10-14-10

hell strung and crooked: new poetry from Uphook Press
“Poetry taken to the edge and back round again.”
Uphook Press celebrates the publication of its latest anthology, hell strung and crooked. Based in New York City, Uphook Press specializes in work by poets and spoken word artists, from all across the United States, who love both the ink and the mike. Contributors Alex O. Bleecker, Laura L. Snyder, and Charles F. Thielman will be joined by editors Ice and Jane Ormerod.
The reading will be followed by an OPEN MIC.
Featured poets:
ICE is a multimedia artist living between Chicago and New York and performs her work in both cities plus Woodstock, Pittsburg, Boston, and Philadelphia to name just a few. ICE is her CD and DVD of photographs, poetry and music.
JANE ORMEROD performs regularly on both east and west coasts plus everywhere in-between. She is the author of Recreational Vehicles on Fire (Three Rooms Press, 2009), 11 Films (Modern Metrics, 2008), and the CD Nashville Invades Manhattan.
LAURA L. SNYDER rides a bunch of horses at once. She reads throughout the Pacific Northwest from Seattle down to Bend. Find her most current writing in Manzanita, Front Range, Four and Twenty, Switched-on Gutenberg, Flutter Poetry Journal, and Poets of the American West.
CHARLES F. THIELMAN has worked as a corrections counselor, a truck driver, bus driver, shoe salesman, and Left-Coast Sandcastler. He is one of 36 writers who are shareholders supporting an independent, lefty bookstore in Eugene.
If there are any thirtysomething heterosexual males in the world still brave enough to wear burgundy nail polish, ALEX O. BLEECKER surely is not among them. That was in college. Now he sticks to Sally Hanson clear nail hardener solution. Starting in November, Alex will be a rotating facilitator for SPLAB’s “Living Room” poetry workshops in Columbia City. For his most recent birthday, his girlfriend had him trampled on by a baby elephant in Thailand. It was the elephant’s birthday, too. |
